Oh dear it's been a while...

And so much has happened. My apologies, uni yet again took control of my life. while I was gone there was the Wolverine movie, Star Trek, Doctor Who's first tv special of the year and Terminator Salvation, all of which I shall comment upon to catch up.

First shall be the Wolverine movie. I loved it. Couldn't give a toss about it messing with canon, I dont know about everyone else but I go to see a movie to entertain me, I was entertained, job well done. I'm a big Gambit fan but his lack of accent didnt phase me at all, I thought he was cute, thought the character was funny, I was again a happy customer. The one thing that did irk me a bit was the very shitty effect when Wolverine is looking at his claws in the bathroom, thats called slopy effects and it really detracted from the scene. Loved the **spoilers** cameo with Professor Xavier, but again some poor de-aging effects. I was also absolutely delighted with John Wraith, he was soooo good so kudos to Will-I-Am, I was honestly a bit iffy about his casting but he really truly proved me wrong. So thumbs up from me, I really loved it, probably give it 8/10.

Ok so on to Star Trek. I have to say I was really pumped for this movie and it really truly delivered. I enjoyed every second of the movie and was sad when it ended. I wanted more, I still want more and am very glad that there will be a sequel. Special mentions for Zachary Quinto and Anton Yelchin for being especially brilliant as Spock and Chekov (god his taking-the-piss Russian accent was hilarious). All the cast are pretty exceptional , I really liked John Cho as Sulu, Uhura shit me a little, however Eric Bana's Nero was pretty freaky, very insane guy( I am biased though, being from the same city and all I tend to love his work). My only problem with the movie was that Data wasn't in it, which I can live with, and that the writers were too lazy to adhere to their own prequel comics. If you're going to write a comic to lead up to your movie please dont contradict the events from it within the flim, it's sloppy writing and it shits me. Also if you haven't read the comics, please do, they're pretty good and explain the events in the movie a lot better than the film has time to. I'd rate Star Trek 9/10.

Yay now for some Doctor Who. The Planet of the Dead only aired here a couple of weeks ago so I'm technically not late with this review. I love David Tennant's Doctor, he is everything I'd want to marry; smart, quirky, funny and incredibly hot. The first of the Tenth Doctor's final specials did not dissapoint at all, it was a wonderful mix of fun, mystery and adventure. I thought Christina was a wonderfully different companion to use, but I'm also glad she's only in one special. She was a fun character but over confidence had started to shit me by the end much like Rose has since the start of season 2. Dont get me wrong, I did like Rose, before she turned into a smug pain in the arse. I honestly wanted to hit her in the second last episode of season 4, she did bloody nothing for the whole two specials! Mickey did more than she did! But anyways back to the special, really loved the reuse of Arissa Mugumbo from last years Turn Left as our UNIT rep for this eppie, as well as Malcolm and I really hope they bring them both back soon. The story itself was pretty cool, bus transported onto another world with flying creatures that eat everything, but the characters where what really drove the whole thing. The only thing it was missing was Ross. They should find a way to bring him back (yes I do know that they killed him, but since when has that ever stopped any character on this show), bring in his cousin or twin brother or something, he was cute. 9/10 from me, I'm so pumped for the next one, cant believe we have to wait till November.

And finally to Terminator Salvation, because of Australia's later release date I only saw this last week after having been swamped by reports of its shittiness. I think everyone was wrong about this, I really liked the movie. Sure it wasn't the best thing I had ever seen, but neither were the other terminator movies so I didn't care. It has Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin and Helena Bohman-Carter in it, what more do you people want. Worthington was the one thing people who reviewed this movie got right, he was indeed freaking brilliant, but he has been for quite a while. Thats right everyone, I've known about him for years, and if you want to see him at his best (and David Wenhams as well) go watch Gettin Square. I promise you will laugh your way through the whole movie, it's fantastic. Anyway Terminator was very good, lots of explosions, robot fighting, a hot chick, hot guys and even a cute little mute girl. I mean, seriously, WHAT MORE DID YOU PEOPLE WANT? I would give this 8/10.

So now I think I'm pretty much up to date. I'll be going to see the Star Wars exhibition they have at scienceworks in the next couple of weeks so I might tell you how that goes. Oh and I'd just like to say thank you to Outpost Gallifrey for all their wonderful Doctor Whoing over the years and to mourn their upcoming closing of their news page and forum, I'll be moving with lots of people to Gallifrey Base and will actually make an attempt to post this time instead of just reading what everyone else is saying.

To the people bitching about the wolverine workprint

Please just shut up. To those people complaining that they saw it and didnt like it, it was a workprint made a month ago. Do you have any idea how much the cut of a movie can change in a day, let alone a month. And besides that, you went out and saw a film that hasn't even had the music and special effects put in. Don't try and give me that crap about them not making any difference because they make every difference. Will I be watching the workprint? No. Want to know why? It isn't because I have some high and mighty 'I took the high road' approach to illegal downloading. Personally I wouldn't lose any sleep over it at all, I won't watch it because it isnt finished!

That brings me to the other group of people pissing me off. The people who think the are so superior because they wont be watching the workprint. For gods sake grow up. The box office for this movie will not be hurt by the leak, it'll be hurt by the price of the bloody tickets! Why should I have to pay $20 to go see a movie these days. It is ridiculous. It is ridiculous that these film companies critisise me for downloading their movie instead of seeing it at the cinemas. I'm happy to pay to see a film once, but I will not pay that amount to see it again. If I wanted a second viewing I would download it. Maybe the comapnies need to stop their bitching about how much money they are loosing through piracy and look at why people are choosing to pirate movies these days.

Xmen Origins and my thoughts on the other movies

Today this shall be Xmen themed because yours truly has just scored tickest to the opening night of the new Origins movie. Now as I said in one of my previous posts I am quite looking forward to this movie due to the appearance of Gambit in the film. I personally think he's the coolest Xmen ever and am therefore going to scare everyone at the screening by squeeling loudly when he comes on screen. Yes I'm also excited about Wolverine being it the film, I enjoy Hugh Jackmans take on the character (he's also easy on the eye, which helps a lot).

The three previous movies were quite good, my favourites were the first and second, I found the final one annoying because Gambit had yet again been left out, as had Jubilee and Angel was a pointless cameo in the films. At least Gambits name came up in the second film (for those who dont know the name comes up on the screen when Mystique is stealing files from Stryker). It was also just a bit of a shitty story, mainly the lack of story. I know there was something about a cure and the Phoenix and all that, but it just didn't use the bloody characters it spent two movies uilding up (spoilers ahoy), Scott dies in the first fifteen minutes, Rougue buggers off to get the cure and Jean spens the movie being a psychotic bitch, not to mention Wolverine being a bit of a sap. About the only decent character work was from the intoduction of beast (also another one of my favourites).

Oh and I just saw the new poster for the movie Where the Wild Things Are. That being one of my favourite books as a child, I am so in to go see it. I love how many great movies are coming out this year, or at least movies based on great things. Of course there's a chance they could screw it all up, I'm still dubious about the live action Dragonball movie, but we'll just have to see. I mean James Masters as Piccolo, I don't doubt that he'd play him really well, he's jut also really short. What I'd be more worried about, well what I am worried about is that the guy playing Goku isn't even Asian. But we'll just have to wait and see how he goes eh?

Star Trek, Supernatural and Stuff

Woo so Star Trek is going to have it's world Premiere in Sydney, lots of people are pissed, I'm just confused.

Why Sydney? The movie wasn't shot over here, there isnt a huge amount of Australians in the cast and JJ Abrams does not hail from here. I have been thinking about it and have come to a kind of conclusion. Australia was always goignt o get the movie a day before the rest of the world, so it makes sense that you would have the premiere here, sort of. Melbourne is out of the running to host it as we currently have the Melbourne Comedy Festival running, with every entertainment venue in the city booked out it would be impossible to hold it here. All the other cities than Sydeny and Melbourne aren't quite right for it (I mean has anyone ever heard of a premiere taking place in Hobart?). So Sydney was the default for an Australian premiere. I mean I wish it could be in Melborune, I'm far too broke to be able to afford to bugger off to Sydney for a couple of days just to gawk at the actor going into the opera house (cause I'm more than content to just do that), it would be very easy for me to catch a train to whatever part of Melbourne it would be played at and just stay at a close by friends place afterwards. But as for Why they've chosen Australia I really have no idea. As for me standing outside a geeky premiere, I'll just have to have my fingers crossed that Melbourne gets the Wolverine premiere.

Now I want to just reveal my thoughts on the last episode of Supernatural (spoilers for those whowho havent seen it). Shit it was rough. Dean learning his daddy dearest held out for a shitload longer than him in hell, that guy is going through hell this season. My bad he already has. The thing that pissed me off is Anna. The skank is hogging all the cute guys on the show, first she shags Dean and now she's having a go for Castiel. Come on Anna leave some men for the rest of us. As for Sam drinking blood? Well I'm a confessed spoiler addict so I already knew, but geez isn't Ruby an evil bitch. I used to like her character, she created a grey area for the show to play with. But after this episode I have to seriously question her motives, the look she makes when Sam is drinking her blood is pure evil. Oh and I thought it was a real cop out to have Uriel the traitor, honestly did they have to make it that obvious. It was so obvious in fact that I didn't see it coming and felt cheated when it was revealed.

And those are my thoughts for today, please leave yours.

Trailer thoughs

I feel a need to do my own analysis of the new Star Trek movie trailer after having read a wonderful one from Trek Movie (You should go check it out, it's much better than mine). But unlike them I wont analyse what's going on, I'll let you know what I thought of each clip. Oh and there night be some spoilers so dont read if you want to remain clueless about whats going to happen in the movie.

I'll say it now so people don't get offended, I don't like Kirk, I never have and I never will. I don't care who he's played by, my opinion on Chris Pine is that he's a pretty boy. Guess who else is a pretty boy? Kirk. So I think he'll do fine.

I think he's being set up as the naughty yet good willed and talented young man we see so often in movies. Joy. I just think he acts like a tool. Personally I hope it's Uhara that gives him that blood nose.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that most Americans will not have seen this guy before. For these peoples information he was an actor on the hideous Australian soapie Home and Away. I'm a fan of the shows main soapie rival Neighbours so I'm already biased against the guy since I've never seen him act well (They both have incredibly shit acting, it makes you cringe). But hey, he's a fellow aussie so good for him for playing Kirk's doomed father, at least I get to see Kim Hyde blow up.

I love Jennifer Morrison, though I wish she was playing Amanda Grayson instead of Winona Kirk. Aww it's itty bitty baby Kirk.Good romantic shot of the Enterprise, every fans heart starts beating faster at this point. Everyone else wonders what is going on.

Good to know that San Fransisco learns how to manage it's polution, lovely clear skies in the future
It's also nice to know that someone out there has a worse school uniform than I did.

Now that is a nice prosthetics job( sorry my hobby is stage makeup). I would have happily volunteered to do his ears and eyebrows everyday. And everyone note that spock has lost that attractive purple smuge under his eyebrows that he had in Leonard Nimoy's time. Quinto clearly went the whole way and shaved, he's hardcore Spock.

I love this bit, Kirk, Sulu and a redshirt go skydiving. Three guesses who wont survive. Here's some lovely Spaceship porn.

Oh no it's Chopper, er I mean Nero.

Spock in the Captain's chair. He can take care of my spaceship anyday.
This part confused me a little, apparently this ship has no chain of command apart from the Captain and his first officer?
Confused again, everyone on that ship outranks him and they still let him take control? You know what, I would have...
Kicked his arse off the ship onto a freezing cold chunk of ice shit hole. Go Spock! (Yes I know this actually takes place before he takes control of the enterprise)
Awww Sock gets hugs.
Spocks mum watches the blowing up of Vulcan. I just want to say at this point that I for one will be pissed if Vulcan is destroyed and if they dont go back and save Romulus.
Spock and Kirk have a moment, is it just me or does Spock look like he's about to crack a smile?
Sulu, not sure if I like him when he isn't George Takei.
Uhara looking gorgeous as ever. I like the casting.
As I do will Simon Pegg as Scotty. Best. Idea. Ever.
Again that better not be Vulcan I see getting smooshed by Nero.
Look its Kirk being, well, Kirk.

Go Spock save everyone, because you are just so awsome.

And those are my thought, please comment on yours.

Movies of 09, but really just my rant on Star Trek

I have been home sick from uni for the week and decided to start this as something to do in my time of illness. Due to being a uni student I am required to spend my years of study completely broke. This becomes a problem especially this year with all the great movies that are coming out that I want to see. Xmen origins, Star Trek and Harry Potter will all be released over a close couple of months, and they expect me to pay to go see them? Bwahahahahaha not likely.

To be completely honest the only reason I really wanted to see the Wolverine movie was because of the inclusion of Gambit, my favourite Xmen ever. Even if he is played by some pretty boy Canadian I am willing to give him the benefit of my doubt until I see him play the character. At least as long as long as Taylor Kitsch doesn't cause the same problem Orlando Bloom did in Lord of the Rings. Mainly the squealing fangirls that always felt the need to sit near me in the cinema. And the last few Harry Potter movies have left a lot to be desired, mainly by leaving out most of the book, so it's likely I could give it a miss.

So that just leaves Star Trek, a movie which has become highly hyped and controversial since it was announced as being in production. Now really do people worry that much about cannon that people are going to get their knickers in a twist over whether Kirk can drive or not? The part of the movie I'm most looking forward to is the bit shown in the Trailer where Spock goes all Sylar on Kirk's arse and chokes him, cause seriously who does Kirk not shit? He's a poncy pretty boy who spends his days shagging his way through the universe. By the way, serious kudos to Zachary Quinto for making Spock into a spunk. Even with his sideburns shaved and his eyebrows waxed and extended he is still the prettiest boy on that ship. And who didn'd smile when Uhara gave him a hug in the trailer? Speaking of transformations I'd also like to talk about fellow Melbournian Eric Bana's gruesome transformation. And by talk about I really just mean to say, shit he's ugly. I mean who goes out of their way to make him look ugly, oh no wait that was the people who made Chopper. But seriously that is one brilliant transformation, this gets to be one of the movies that I wont be drooling over Eric Bana in, I'll save that for the Time Travellers Wife later this year.

But anywho, my personal opinion on this movie? (Spoiler Warning for the countdown comics) Any movie that spawns a comic series that resurrects Data is officially ok in my book, and as for cannon? It's an alternate past people please just get over it and move on.
